Before we tackle design on your website you need to purchase hosting and register your domain. These are charges that you will pay and continue to pay for the lifetime of your site and recur on an annual basis.
A domain is the address where your site can be found. Hosting is where all the files, posts, pictures, etc for your site “live”. They can be purchased separately, but I would recommend they be purchased together if you can (they often throw in the domain for free the first year with a hosting purchase).
BlueHost is an excellent and affordable choice and I am including instructions below on how to set up what you need!
Click on this link to get started!
Click on the green Get Started Now button.
You can feel free to chat with me about my recommendation for the plan to select. In almost every case, I would recommend ‘Starter’ as this will cover the majority of what you will need in the beginning and you can change your service level down the road if you need to.
Next, you will select your domain name! You can add the name in the box provided and then click the next button to ensure its availability.
The next screen will have you complete all of your account details and select your account plan and some additional options.
The longer the term you select the less expensive the plan is. Again, only select the term you feel comfortable with. Please note, you will be charged in full for the entire term of service (24 months, 36 months, etc).
As far as the optional add-ons, I would carefully review the descriptions of each to see if you are interested in adding for an additional charge:
Domain Privacy Protection – prevents users from seeing your name associated with the website in WhoIs. This helps alleviate potential unwanted solicitation and spam to your email address.
Site Backup Pro – Automatic Online Backups with Site Backup and Restore
Sitelock Domain Security – Security for online businesses
Search Engine Jumpstart – helps increase your search rankings and SEO
Google Apps for Work – provides you access to Gmail with your domain extension (ie. email@example.com) along with google drive, hangouts, and docs
From here, you will just need to enter your credit card information and complete your purchase!
